The Gay and Lesbian Center of Southern Nevada has noticeably augmented its transgender-themed programming in recent years, from historical and cultural events to the weeklong Las Vegas TransPride. On September 8, it looks to start a new annual tradition with the inaugural Genderfest, a three-day conference comprising speakers and workshops that aim to inform and empower the local trans and gender non-confirming community and its supporters.

“Genderfest is not only a conference about the intersectionality of gender; it’s about growth, learning about the different ways gender is explored and expressed and navigating through the gender journey,” said Blue Montana, transgender program manager at the Center.

Local journalist Jon Ralston, whose story about his transgender son went viral last May, will kick off the conference with a keynote speech on September 8. Additional keynote speakers include airline pilot Jessica Taylor, teenage activist Lily Rubenstein, poet and author Max Wolf Valerio and Michelle Honda-Phillips, daughter of Congressman Mike Honda and mother to trans daughter Malisa.

Attendees will also be able to take part in a variety of workshops over the weekend covering topics like transgender history, surgical and other health-related matters and legal issues.

Tickets are available for $75 here.
