World’s biggest orgy attempt moves to Erotic Heritage Museum

In the least shocking development of the week, the scheduled attempt to break the world’s record for largest orgy will move from Embassy Suites on Swenson Street to the 24,000-square-foot Erotic Heritage Museum due to “increased interest in the event.”

That’s one way of putting it. The June 2 event—the climactic party of sexual lifestyle promoter Menage Life’s Sin City 8 weekender—has received an onslaught of attention after the Weekly published its May 3 story about the world record attempt. Talk show host and comedian Stephen Colbert riffed on the event during a monologue on the May 11 episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, joking about the travails of the housekeeping staff, “re-creating the depraved, lascivious depths of Sodom and Gomorrah” and something about the missing butter at Embassy’s waffle station.

We’re guessing it was at that point that Hilton, the corporate owner of Embassy Suites, ultimately balked at having one of its properties host a Caligula-blushing assemblage of couples, thruples and more writhing around in the commons area.

Whatever the reason for the move, it's a sensible one. For one, it allows the new host to use the event for its own academic purposes. According to today's news release, Erotic Heritage Museum Executive Director Dr. Victoria Hartmann will conduct a qualitative research project during the orgy to help fill holes in the study of the evolution of group sex. And a museum documenting the history of sex is a natural to exhibit a history-making sex event—provided, of course, the participants bring their own sex toys and leave the ancient Chinese ones in their glass case.

“We are excited to be working with the Erotic Heritage Museum on this historic opportunity!” Menage Life founder Sante Suffoletta said in a statement. “We are both aligned in our view that consenting adults should be able to fully express their sexuality without fear or shame."

Menage 8 is attempting to break an unofficial record set in Tokyo in 2006, where 250 couples simultaneously had sex in the same room. Guinness World Records has said it will not recognize the attempt, nor be present to witness it.

UPDATE: Embassy Suites management has told the Weekly that while Sin City 8 room guests are welcome to stay there, the previously scheduled events outside of the orgy—including the seminars and parties—are no longer permitted at the hotel. The Sin City 8 webpage now lists Wednesday’s opening Foreplay reception as happening at Caesars Palace’s Otherroom and Thursday’s late-night Meow Mix shindig will take place at the Artisan, but the remainder of the weekend’s non-orgy events are missing venue information. (Menage Life has yet to respond to scheduling queries.)

Tickets for all Sin City 8 events are available here.
