Cocktail of the Week

The Obamarama and The Maverick

SushiSamba, The Palazzo, $11

Image

Essentially, The Obamarama is just a blueberry lemonade and The Maverick is just a raspberry white tea…but when, in the history of politics, has anything ever been plainly stated?! At SushiSamba's "Drink the vote!" party Tuesday night, beverage director Arik Torren's electoral cocktails went head-to-head. And the winner was…Senator Barack's Obamarama, 20 to 3! Thank you, Republicans for staying home to drink. And thank you, political satirist Mo Rocca for inspiring the cocktail's name. Like blueberry lemonade, we think the self-styled "fundit" doesn't get nearly enough praise.

Ingredients and method:

Obamarama

Muddle three lemon pieces with four blueberries and two spoonfuls of sugar.

Add: 1.5 oz Pearl Blueberry Vodka and .5 oz Blue Curaçao.

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass and top up with club soda.

Garnish with a lemon wheel or star fruit slice and cast a vote for change.

The Maverick

Muddle four raspberries with two spoonfuls of sugar

Add: 1.5 oz raspberry rum, .5 oz triple sec, .25 oz grenadine, and

2 oz unsweetened white tea.

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled wine glass.

Garnish with an edible orchid blossom or any in-season berry and celebrate being a mixology maverick.
