FROM THE BARTENDER, Erik Kluever

Erik Kluever

About the drink: Every holiday season, people enervate themselves – increasing their workload, shopping for presents, and traveling to visit family. I endeavored to create a boozy, yet delicate, cocktail that will encourage the drinker to pause and reflect. The whiskey forms the focal point, with robust spice and vanilla notes – flavors associated with the holidays. The whiskey is supported by the date, nut, and herbal notes of the sweeteners, adding warmth, and accented by the delicate floral and fruity notes of the bitters. There is no better way to round out the sensory experience than a little smoke – transporting the drinker to cozy fireside conversations with loved ones.

About the creator: Erik Kluever grew up in Wilmington, NC, a small beach town along the Atlantic Ocean. His upbringing in the South, with dedicated, religious parents, instilled the virtues of courtesy, service, and friendliness – foundational components to success as an industry professional. After college, he became transfixed by the intricacies of whiskey production, its rich history and traditions, and its complex depth of flavor. Bartending appeared the natural course for Erik, allowing him to provide for himself while learning more about whiskey and imparting his knowledge to others. Nearly six years later, his enthusiasm has not waned. He manages his favorite bar, Oak & Ivy, curating its whiskey and cocktail programs, and charting its course forward within vibrant Downtown Las Vegas.
