Cocktails for the cure

Amateur and pro mixologists shake it up to fight breast cancer

“Somewhere in the world, a woman dies from breast cancer every 68 seconds,” somberly states the Web site for the second annual Ultimate Cocktail for the Cure mixology competition. Locals Lisa and Sean Bigley of Ultimate Bar Chef and UBC Enterprises have assembled a team of top industry judges including BarMagic of Las Vegas’ Tobin Ellis, AKA Wine Geek’s Steve Olson and The Modern Mixologist, Tony Abou Ganim to judge the October 26 competition as a way of raising money and awareness for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

This year, bartenders of both the professional and amateur variety are invited to participate within their group. Entries must include Sense Rose Nectar and at least one of the sponsor products, which include Hendrick's Gin, Absolut 100 Vodka, Grand Marnier, Milagro Tequila, Sagatiba Cachaca, and Sonoma Syrup.

"During this time of global economic challenge that we all face, we are proud to be part of an industry that holds constant to its sense of community and is willing, even during the most difficult of times, to step forward and make a difference," says Katherine Tait, CEO of SENCE-Worldwide.

Original drink recipes must be submitted via ultimatecocktailforacure.com by September 30.
