The gentle hand of spring is turning to the angry slap of summer, and cocktail menus are answering with concoctions as refreshing as a dive into a lake after a hard run. While the Strip boasts some of the most creative drinks in Las Vegas, they typically cost as much as an entrée. So if you want something just as tasty for less, hit Henderson’s Republic Kitchen & Bar (9470 S. Eastern Ave.) for a Tangerine Mojito ($10). Served in a highball brimming with ice and citrus garnish, it’s cold, sweet and deliciously bubbly. As you sip, the muddled mint and tangerine flavors come forward, accented by Dragon Berry Bacardi rum. It sips nicely, though you’ll be tempted to drink it down quick and order another. If tangerine isn’t your flavor, try the fresh blueberry or traditional lime. And stay tuned for more summer drinks by Republic bartenders inspired by the sweetness of peach and watermelon. Yummy.

Tangerine Mojito

• 1 oz. rock candy syrup (more if you like it sweeter)

• 2 oz. Dragon Berry Bacardi

• 1 oz. Sprite

• 1 thick slice of tangerine cut into four pie-shaped pieces

• 2 mint leaves

Method: Muddle tangerine, mint and syrup in a glass until well combined. Add Bacardi and fill glass with ice. Shake until chilled and pour everything, dirty style, into a highball. Add a splash of Sprite on top and garnish with a wheel of lime and a curl of orange peel.
