We’re still wearing our hoodies, but pool season starts in earnest soon, as many of the daylife complexes have announced the beginning of their 2014 seasons. New Wynn resident Deorro kicks things off at Encore Beach Club on March 14; Wet Republic opens the same day, though its first big DJ event happens on March 29 with Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano; and Daylight launches quietly on March 28, with Nicky Romero playing the season’s grand opening on April 5. Encore will begin a Thursday night promo on May 1 with Martin Solveig.
XS celebrates its fifth birthday on February 15, making it one of the rare Strip spots to hover at the top of the club rankings half a decade after its opening. Kaskade will lord over the proceedings.
Body English enters an ’80s- and early ’90s-themed Thursday promo into its calendar on February 13. Poplife will feature Gen X nostalgia acts like Color Me Badd, performing this Thursday, and Vanilla Ice, who hosts on February 27, along with residents Hass Dinero and Mikey Swift cranking out Club MTV, new jack swing and early hip-hop faves.
Nightclub & Bar Media Group named its 2014 award winners last week, and while Las Vegas spots weren’t included in the general nightclub and bar contests, they received their own designation and categories, with Hakkasan scoring Nightclub of the Year, Encore Beach Club winning Dayclub of the Year and Wynn resident Diplo landing DJ of the Year. Check out all the winners local and beyond at nightclub.com. The awards ceremony takes place during the Nightclub & Bar Convention and Trade Show, March 24-26.
