The sold-out concerts in October were nothing new for The B-52s in Las Vegas.

“Whenever we’ve played Las Vegas, we would always sell out, even from the very beginning,” says founding member Fred Schneider. “I guess it’s the fact that we have a good show that gets people going. And people already want to go to Vegas. There’s a lot more to do than just gambling.”

The seminal new wave party band formed in 1976 in Athens, Georgia, now has a lot more to do in Vegas. Today The B-52s announced a 10-night residency at the Venetian Theatre starting on May 5 and continuing with dates in May, August and September. Tickets start at $50 and will go on sale December 3 via Ticketmaster.

A unique rock act that broke through playing punk clubs in New York City in the late 1970s and surged into the mainstream on MTV with 1989 album Cosmic Thing, The B-52s hit the road for a farewell tour through summer and fall of this year, including three shows at the Venetian last month.

Schneider confirms the band will continue to perform live but plan to avoid the rigors of the road from an actual structured tour.

“I just hate to travel but I agreed to do one last tour,” he says, noting that the band had planned to embark on the farewell in 2020 and was forced to postpone. “But now, let’s do it [in Las Vegas] so people can come to us. We don’t have to play every small town in America, and people like getting out of those towns and coming to a city that has a lot more to offer.”

Fans can expect the same high-energy, hit-filled concerts during the residency that they’ve come to enjoy at other B-52s shows and festival sets. “After 40 years, more than 40 years, we have a lot of stuff we have to do, which doesn’t necessarily leave much room for what we might want to do, newer songs,” Schneider says. “But we will change it up, maybe two or three different songs every night, and take it from there.”

The 2023 B-52s dates at Venetian Theatre are May 5, 6, 10, 12 and 13; August 25, 26 and 30; and September 2 and 3.
