Sharing is caring at Atomic Liquors

A bottle share is exactly what it sounds like—people coming together to taste and share with one another. Acquired from travels or trades, bottle shares allows beer lovers to circumvent archaic distribution limitations and try brews from around the country and the world.

Khoury’s Fine Wine and Spirits hosts weekly Wednesday-night shares, but until recently there wasn’t a central event for non-Hendersonians hoping not to trek out on a school night. When Wirtz Beverage wine and spirits sales consultant Chelsea Potts’ bottle shares outgrew her home, she reached out to Atomic Liquors general manager Rose Signor for help, and a Second Saturday share was born.

Potts says it’s “a way to build a craft culture and to share with people who are just as excited about it as you are.” Signor adds, “It’s about bringing the beer community together.”

The cost of admission is $10 plus a bottle that’s not readily available in the Vegas market. This could be beer from a brewery not distributed locally; a discontinued, cellared beer; or even a one-off with limited distribution elsewhere. Recently, bottles from Bend, Oregon’s sour-centric Ale Apothecary and Trillium Brewing—which only distributes in Boston—have surfaced, but most epic was a 2011 Dark Lord Russian imperial stout from Indiana’s 3 Floyds Brewing Co. This particular beer is so rare, a heavy-metal festival takes place on its single April distribution day.

This month’s share will be replaced by Atomic’s annual Sour Saturday, but stay tuned to Atomic’s Facebook page and/or Potts’ Instagram (@chelsea.r.potts) for details on the next one. Besides, this will give you time to track down your contribution.
