Beyond the Weekly

The fun begins with a “pre-festival Artgasm” at 4 p.m., followed at 5 by a rally organized by Nevadans for Education Funding. Then at 6, the music begins, interspersed with spoken word performances and live painting. Topping the bill, three of Las Vegas’ best-known bands: power popsters The Big Friendly Corporation, indie rockers A Crowd of Small Adventures and cowpunkers The Clydesdale. Also scheduled to play: Shaun de Graff, Interzone, My First Rodeo and two-fourths of Avalon Landing. Oh yeah, and it’s all free and open to all ages.

For those who feel like spending some money—and drinking—the Arts Factory’s Bar+Bistro will offer samples of various craft beers for $20 a head.

  • It’s not the craziest idea to visit the festival just to see the art, and this year there’s more of it than ever.

  • Like the other critters lurking among the 32 works, the pickled fish carry environmental messages.
