Two upcoming local concerts are all about the kids. On November 13, not only is Area 107.9 FM celebrating the third birthday of its weekly local music show, they’re taking the opportunity to give back to the community.

“We’re raising money for a music program at Shade Tree,” says Local Show Joe. “This way the children will have a creative output to make their stay at the shelter feel more normal.” Bands donating their time to the cause are The Day After, Left Standing, Holding On To Sound and Otherwise, plus a special performance by Big Beat Battalion. Tickets are $5 for the 21 and up show starting at 6 p.m. at Green Valley Ranch’s Ovation Lounge, and all proceeds benefit Shade Tree.

Holding On To Sound will also play another benefit on November 18 with Jack and the B-Fish, The Core and Nothing with Numbers. This time the fundraiser is for Invisible Children, an organization trying to end the longest running war in Africa and assist child soldiers. The all-ages show starts at 7 p.m. at Yayo Taco (4632 S. Maryland Parkway) and includes a screening of The Rescue, a film about the child soldiers. Tickets are $10.
