Sometimes when I write a Letter To The Editor, it doesn’t get published, but it does get a personal response from the editor…
My letter:
Dear Culture: The World On Cheese,
One observation regarding your Consider the Cracker piece: Your cheese suggestions are spot on (as always), but many of the crackers mentioned would be better off with no cheese at all—particularly the 34 Degrees Crispbread, the Valley Seed Crisps, and the Potter’s Crackers. In other words, the crackers are good for the cheese… but the cheese is bad for the crackers. Taste for yourself and I’m sure you’ll see what I’m talking about.
You’ll have to forgive me, though, as I come from a cracker background, not a cheese background!
-Rick Lax, Lax Vegas
Before you read the editor’s response, you have to know that I know nothing about crackers, and that I’ve never tasted any of these crackers mentioned in the piece.
Okay, here’s the editor’s response:
Dear Mr. Lax,
Thanks for your input Rick. I know what you mean--each of the crackers are delicious sans cheese. I enjoyed nibbling the leftovers.
Happy Holiday,
Dlaine Khosrova
And here’s another letter of mine with another editor response:
Dear Home Power
Congratulations on another great issue (Dec 09/Jan 10). One comment, on the piece by Michael Welch & Kelly Davidson, “PV Modules: It’s a Buyer’s Market”: Just because there’s an oversupply of PV modules and just because you can purchase them for $4.38 per watt doesn’t mean “It’s a buyer’s market.” Far from it! The prices are at $4.38 per watt for a reason, and we all know what that reasons is. It doesn’t surprise me that Glenn Harris from SunCentric claims, “It’s a great time to invest,” but here’s a claim of my own: just because you can now buy a dozen VHS tapes for a buck doesn’t mean you should.
-Rick Lax, Las Vegas
Remember, I have no clue what a PV Module is.
Okay, here’s the editor’s response:
Hi Rick,
Thanks for your feedback, we do appreciate it. But I am having troubles finding a parallel between VHS and PV modules. VHS has for the most part been replaced by other technologies, mainly DVDs and digital streaming. As far as I know, there is no replacement technology for PV modules.
The point is that home scale PV systems have never been cheaper, and that has to do with supply-based economics. Until the economic situation changes, it is definitely a good time to buy.

Sr. Editor
Good work, Michael Welch! That guy has my number!
