Maybe you’re a social drinker looking to avoid hangovers. Or maybe you simply want to try something new.
If so, the cannabis-infused sparkling beverage, self-proclaimed “social tonic” CANN, could be for you. CANN contains a low dose of cannabis (2 mg THC and 4 mg CBD), so it can be consumed in the same way you’d share a few casual drinks with friends.
“We want this to be a sessionable beverage; we don’t want it to be 'one and you melt into the couch,'” says Chelsea Bedard, CANN’s chief revenue officer.
Bedard compares a CANN to a light beer or a glass of wine. In fact, she says, she's started replacing her evening glass of wine with a CANN in order to prevent next-day wine headaches. “The whole concept was something that you could drink in place of alcohol.”
CANN’s cannabis is water-soluble, meaning you should feel a light buzz within 10-15 minutes, rather than the hour-plus waits of your older brother’s pot brownies. The lightness of the buzz is also a boon for cannabis newcomers.
“If anybody has ever been curious about cannabis, this is the product to try,” Bedard says. “It’s very approachable.”
Another advantage for newbies: taste. “The THC emulsion that we use has no cannabis taste at all,” Bedard says. “When you drink the product, you could put a virgin product that has no cannabis in it right next to a product that has cannabis in it and would not be able to tell the difference.”
CANN is low in calories and comprises all-natural ingredients. In addition to the cannabis extract, the drinks contain juice, herbs, carbonated water and organic Mexican agave for sweetness.
“There’s no preservatives in it and no refined sugars, and there’s nothing that’s going to give you a hangover,” Bedard says. “The best part about it is, it tastes really, really good.”
It’s currently available in blood orange cardamom, lemon lavender and grapefruit rosemary, with a few new flavors and strengths expected later this year.
