Quick Bites: Las Vegas restaurants making news this week

Shawn McClain and his McClain Camarota Hospitality Group, which recently opened Balla Italian Soul at Sahara Las Vegas, has announced its first Las Vegas project off the Strip with Wineaux, a wine shop, bar, social space and eatery, set to open in the 40-acre mixed-use UnCommons community in the southwest Valley later this year. “We noticed a gap in the market for a truly personalized and curated wine-buying experience, rooted in fun, exploration and socialization,” McClain said in a statement. “Wineaux at UnCommons will give wine lovers the experience they’ve been looking for, and we are so excited to bring the concept to life in an incredible location.” Exclusive wine tasting events, curbside pickup and a wine club will be part of the programming.

Nielsen’s Frozen Custard is set to open its Santa Fe Station food court location on Friday, March 10, at noon, with giveaways, free cones and more. Having already expanded from its Henderson home base to Summerlin at Red Rock Resort, Nielsen’s is also planning a spot at the upcoming Durango Casino food hall opening later this year. The newest store in the northwest will operate daily from noon until 10 p.m.

Pinkbox Doughnuts will open its first store in North Las Vegas on March 11, inviting the community to celebrate with a festival including a DJ, family-friendly activities, balloon art, face painting, a doughnut eating contest and more from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The store is located at 1210 W. Craig Road and three lucky customers who find a Pink Ticket in a doughnut that day will win free doughnuts for a year. The highly anticipated M.Y. Asia from legendary TV chef Martin Yan is set to open at Horseshoe Las Vegas on March 13. The menu will include traditional dishes from across Asia, from shrimp lettuce cups and dim sum to mu shu pork tacos, sizzling black pepper steak and pan-seared Chilean sea bass. The 5,300-square-foot space will also include the Lucky Bell Bar, serving classic cocktails and extensive beer and wine selections, and M.Y. Asia will be open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 a.m.

Bellagio will host a special dinner with Chateau Margaux, Buffalo Trace Distillery and chefs David Chang, Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Michael Mina on March 18 at 5:30 p.m. at Le Cirque. The one-night-only experience will feature limited edition spirits tastings, winery pairings and special surprises, along with special dishes from the celebrity chefs. Tickets cost $5,000 per person, seating is limited and reservations are required at bellagio.com.

The second location of Oming’s Kitchen is set for a grand opening on March 20 at 10 a.m. in the Winterwood Plaza at 2232 S. Nellis Blvd. For more information, visit omingskitchen.com.

Stanton Social Prime is scheduled to open at Caesars Palace on March 21. The Tao Group Hospitality restaurant from chef Chris Santos is already a popular destination in New York City’s Lower East Side, and the Vegas version, adjacent to Omnia Nightclub, will highlight prime, dry-aged steaks along with signature shareable dishes like French onion soup dumplings, pierogies and al pastor yellowtail crudo. Designed by the Rockwell Group, the 200-seat space will be open Sunday, Monday and Wednesday from 5 until 10:30 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday from 5 until 11:30 p.m.

The Las Vegas Pizza Alliance, in collaboration with Slice out Hunger, will host the Pizza Expo Tailgate Party to kick off Pizza Expo 2023 on March 26 from 5 until 7:30 p.m. on Third Street in front of Pizza Rock. The event is open to the public as well as expo attendees and will feature more than 20 of the best pizza makers from Las Vegas and around the world. Tickets are available for a tax-deductible donation of $45 and are available through sliceouthunger.org.

Piero’s Italian Cuisine is celebrating its 41st anniversary this month with a special prix fixe menu available until March 31 featuring four courses of Piero’s signatures for $82. The restaurant is donating a portion of the proceeds to a local nonprofit chosen by its Instagram followers, to be announced on April 3. More info and reservations can be found at pieroscuisine.com.

Dominick Demartino, a bartender at the Legacy Club at Circa Resort, has advanced to the top 30 in the United States Bartenders Guild Presents World Class Sponsored by Diageo Global Bartending Competition. Demartino is the lone Nevada contestant to be selected for the national finals in Austin, Texas, on May 16-18. Only one bartender will be chosen there to advance to the World Class Global Finals in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
