If your only experiences with tequila shots include licking salt off your hand and slipping a lime wedge between your teeth, let us introduce sangrita.
Sangrita is a traditional Mexican accompaniment to blanco tequila — it’s meant to be sipped alongside the shot as both a chaser and a palate cleanser. Somewhat reminiscent to a bloody mary, sangrita is rich, spicy, slightly sweet and pairs perfectly with a good tequila.
While lesser known in the U.S., sangrita is a mainstay among tequila lovers in Mexico.
Ingredients
2 cups unsalted tomato juice
1 cup fresh-squeezed orange juice
4 oz. fresh-squeezed lime juice
4 dashes Tabasco sauce
4 dashes Maggi Liquid Seasoning
Junior Merino Chile Aleppo/Lime salt mixture for rim
Method
Combine all ingredients for the sangrita into a pitcher and add salt to taste. Stir to combine, cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Rim 3-ounce serving glasses with Chile Aleppo/Lime salt. Serve with tequila shot.
