More than 3.4 million people in the United States have tested positive for COVID-19, including more than 30,000 people in Nevada and more than 25,000 here in Clark County. At press time, 502 Clark County residents have died from the virus.

Seeing those numbers grow daily can feel extremely scary, but we can also begin to grow numb to them, like white noise in the background. Spend some time talking to someone infected with—or who has been fortunate enough to recover from—COVID-19, however, and it begins to feel much more tangible.

In the stories that follow, we provide space for members of our community to tell their harrowing tales about battling a disease that has crippled so many aspects of our society over the past few months. The scariest part? They represent a tiny fraction of the people all around us going through similar ordeals, and worse.
