When the weather heats up, Bond’s Laid in the Shade keeps things very cool

For a completely summer touch, be sure to add the umbrella.

Jungle juice’s older, slightly more refined brother has arrived just in time for the hot, steamy days of summer. It’s name is Laid in the Shade ($12), and it’s served at Bond, the swanky Strip-side lounge at the front of the Cosmopolitan.

Beware. Despite this cocktail’s coquettish presentation, with a foamy top and umbrella garnish, Laid is not for beginners. The aroma is fruit, fruit and more fruit, with a base of Stoli Ohranj providing zesty citrus and quality ABV. Cranberry, lime and orange juices blend well, and Passoã liqueur provides balance, adding passion fruit to the bouquet. Peach foam is the finishing touch that brings this cocktail home to declare Laid in the Shade as the motto of summer 2012.

So, when the days get hot, turn on some LFMAO party rock and shake up a batch for group inebriation, or head to Bond to find that special someone to share the shade.

Laid in the Shade

1 1/2 oz. Stoli Ohranj vodka

1/2 oz. Passoã liqueur

1/2 oz. grenadine

1/2 oz. cranberry juice

1/2 oz. orange juice

1/2 oz. lime juice

Peach foam (optional)

Method: Combine first six ingredients in a mixing glass. Shake and strain into a brandy snifter. Top with peach foam, if you’re using it, and an umbrella.
