If the Cosmopolitan dares to be different, Sam’s Town typically refrains altogether, as much a creature of habit as its largely mature clientele.

However, Sam’s Town felt emboldened to wade into the specialty-cocktail waters with its new Margaritas of the Month promotion at Willy and Jose’s, one of three restaurants in the casino’s Mystic Falls Park atrium (imagine Adventuredome designed by Thomas Kinkade and built by Disney). For April, the cantina-style restaurant will introduce the Roasted Blueberry Basil Margarita, which I initially sipped and then chugged like a marathoner with a Gatorade cup. Which is to say, it’s very refreshing and drinkable, with just enough tequila burn—a no-brainer for patrons needing an excuse to mix up their routine.

Ingredients:

2 oz. Grand Marnier

1 ½ oz. Jose Cuervo Silver tequila

2 oz. lime juice

2 ½ oz. blueberry basil simple syrup

sliced lime (garnish)

basil leaves (garnish)

fresh blueberries

salt

sugar

Method: For syrup, boil equal parts sugar and water, along with basil leaves, in saucepan. Roast blueberries in pan, then add to syrup and blend. Infuse for 24 hours. Rim rocks glass with salt and sugar. Shake Grand Marnier, tequila, lime juice, syrup and ice. Pour into glass over ice. Garnish with fresh blueberries, basil leaves and sliced lime.
