Just months ahead of its Labor Day Weekend debut, the new SLS resort has firmed up its nightlife slate with plans for a new nightclub and rooftop pool called Life. The 20,000-square-foot space joins intimate live music venue Sayers Club and the ultralounge-like Foxtail.

April 4-6 is a big weekend for pool season. Not only do the aforementioned Marquee Dayclub and Encore Beach Club celebrate their grand openings, so do Daylight Beach Club (featuring DJ Nicky Romero) and Wet Republic (with Dada Life on April 5 and Calvin Harris on April 6).

A handful of our regular DJ headliners encountered health issues during Miami Music Week and the adjoining Ultra Music Festival last weekend. XS resident and previous pancreatitis sufferer Avicii was hospitalized on March 27, his subsequent stomach surgeries forcing cancellation of his performances. On the same day, Hakkasan’s Dada Life was halved when Stefan Engblom underwent his own gastrointestinal operation, with Olle Corneer fulfilling the duo’s live obligations solo. The day before, fellow Hakkasan jock Afrojack allegedly fell during a performance, while also admitting dehydration and fatigue. He landed in the hospital as a result (just as his roster-mate Tiësto did when he bumped his own head on March 21 in San Diego).

Frankie Knuckles, one of the true house music pioneers, died on March 31 of unknown causes. His few Vegas gigs included a 1995 set at the former Drink on Harmon and, more recently, a 2008 gig at Moon.

New Downtown beat emporium 1 Stop DJ Shop (222 E. Imperial Ave.) celebrates its grand opening April 4 during First Friday with sets by local jocks and giveaways.
