Nightlife News & Notes: Markus Schulz to celebrate America’s Best DJ win and more

Going for the hat trick? Markus Schulz recently took the title of DJ Times‘ America’s Best DJ contest for the second time in three years.

While details remain scant, Hakkasan Group is going forward with the recruitment effort for the 2015 megaclub taking over the former Pure spot. Interviews for a range of bar-related positions will take place October 21-24 and 27-29 at LAX starting at noon. (Swimwear is required for the audition.)

Liaison is celebrating the striking down of Nevada's same sex marriage ban by granting all locals free admission and one cocktail on October 8, which is also the launch of the club's new Wednesday night. Furthermore, any couple presenting a Nevada marriage license at the door of the Bally's LGBT spot on a Wednesday night will also get free admission (provided the license is one month old, presumably to dodge any Britney-style post-weekend annulments).

Following the reopening of Marquee’s winter-proof dayclub dome on October 12 with Markus Schulz—who will celebrate winning the America’s Best DJ poll—Surrender is set to unleash its own upgraded bubble for climate-controlled revelry. On October 22, guests will discover an 18-foot-high, 10,000-square-foot glass dome that will stretch from the club’s outdoor opening to the gaming pavilion, allowing for extra VIP seating or indoor pool parties.

Marquee summer resident Kaskade migrates to XS for the off-season on November 1. Speaking of XS talent: Deadmau5 actually said something nice on Twitter—and to local producer/DJ 3LAU, to boot. After the latter tweeted a complimentary remark to the former (and Eric Prydz) on September 29, the mouse-helmeted icon thanked him and added, “You just keep being you. Your magnus [sic] opus will come soon enough if it already hasn’t ... [I’ve] heard some cool sh*t from your direction ... still lots to be proud of.”

And on the subject of public shout-outs, it’s hard to beat the one exploding Barcelona producer/DJ Coyu shared on social media regarding Vegas’ “small but amaaaaazing underground scene,” for which he performed on October 3 at Artistic Armory. “I [had] sooooo much fun playing in an intimate room for no more than 200 [people]. The crowd was extremely enthusiastic, they went wild with my feline underground heat.” Is it too soon to call Best Party of the Year?
