As the sun started to set over the festival grounds at Life Is Beautiful, I decide to run around on a blitz to photograph as many people I could between music sets, drinking and the all-around chaos. It was simple, the natural light was beautiful and how often does one get to run down Fremont without the cops chasing you? I had my camera ready and my boyfriend agreed to serve as a human light stand, holding a flash (just in case I needed it).
My interactions with the festival-goers were brief. I would pick the backdrop/building first and then wait a few minutes till someone walked by who seemed to go with the scenery. Wading through the crowd, I'd run up, tap them on the shoulder, and, still walking, I would ask if I could take a quick photo to document the day. Every single person obliged eagerly. It was a quick interaction, no longer than 30 seconds. Not once did anyone ask my name. I would yell a fleeting "thank you" and continue on in a race against the fading sunlight.
