As We See It

Touring Topgolf before its slated May opening

The game is a combination of golf and darts, with players getting points based on how close the balls get to targets on the range. Topgolf is slated to debut its new flagship location behind MGM Grand in late May. The Weekly recently took a hard-hat tour of the 105,000-square-foot space while learning more about what the souped-up driving range will have to offer.

Why is it called Topgolf? The “top” in Topgolf stands for target oriented practice, as the driving range features 10 targets (ranging 25 to 200 yards away from the 108 climate-controlled hitting bays) designed like dartboards, with various points awarded for scoring in different sections.

How are scores kept? Callaway golf balls with computer chips inside track distance and accuracy, and award points for the targets a player hits.

How much will it cost to rent a hitting bay? Pricing will fluctuate, but Topgolf reps say bay rentals will start at around $30 per hour. Not bad, considering six friends can share one bay.

Will you need to book a bay to experience Topgolf? No. Topgolf will also feature five bars, a concert venue, a retail shop, two 21+ pools (with cabanas, day beds and chaise lounges available for rent) and an event space for up to 3,000 people.

I heard one of those bars might look familiar … That’s right! Topgolf salvaged bars from the shuttered Riviera to use at its new flagship location.

Five bars, you say. Is this place kid-friendly? Topgolf Las Vegas’ first and second floors will be all-ages, while the third and fourth floors are strictly for the 21-and-over set.
