Quick Bites: PBR Rock Bar, Ocean Prime, Golden Tiki and more Vegas food and drink news

PBR Rock Bar & Grill at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood will end its 12-year run on the Strip when it closes on September 30. “It’s absolutely heartbreaking that after two years of negotiations with the Miracle Mile Shops, we were unable to reach a new deal with the landlord,” owner Jonathan Fine said in a statement. “As a company we are committed to our employees and the brand, therefore we are relocating PRB Rock Bar to a different location on the Strip.”

Ocean Prime has announced plans as the anchor restaurant in 63, the multi-level retail and hospitality complex at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Harmon Avenue adjacent to the Shops at Crystals. Scheduled to open in spring 2023, the 14,500-square-foot restaurant will include a terrace, more than 400 seats, two bars and three private dining rooms, the first Las Vegas location for the acclaimed contemporary seafood and steakhouse brand from Cameron Mitchell Restaurants.

Carver Road Hospitality, which opened Carversteak at Resorts World, will debut Flanker Kitchen & Sports Bar at Mandalay Bay in summer 2023 in the former RM Seafood space near the entrance to the Shoppes at Mandalay Place. An extensive menu of elevated American fare, including burgers, sliders, tacos, salads, bowls, weekend brunch and more, will be paired with a large selection of draft and bottled beer, and a walk-up window will serve grab-and-go fare for sports fans on their way to Allegiant Stadium. The original Flanker opened in Salt Lake City in December 2021. The Vegas version will have five distinct dining areas, private rooms and a patio.

The Golden Tiki on Spring Mountain Road is celebrating its seventh anniversary this week with seven parties August 23-30. Different themes and entertainment are planned for each night, culminating in a huge celebration for National Mai Tai day on August 30 from 6 until 10 p.m. when the Tiki attempts to break the world record for the world’s largest mai tai. Chick-fil-A will open its new Flamingo and Paradise location on August 25. In honor of the opening, Chick-fil-A will donate $25,000 to Feeding America to distribute to partners in the greater Las Vegas area to aid the fight against hunger. The new store will be open for drive-thru from 6:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and dine-in and carry-out from 6:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Saint Honoré Doughnuts & Beignets will open its second location on August 27 at 5020 Blue Diamond Road. It will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a drive-thru window and will also operate as a ghost kitchen for Pizza Anonymous.

Jaleo is celebrating Spain’s famous La Tomatina event this week and next with a special menu celebrating the season’s best produce. Among the dishes available through September 4 at the Cosmopolitan eatery are carne asada con tomate, heirloom tomato salad with Spanish conserved tuna and piparra pepper dressing, grilled mussels with tomato sofrito, and the Tomate-Lo cocktail with vodka, sherry, tomato water, lemon juice and orange bitters.

Half Bird, which debuted earlier this month on Spring Mountain Road, will celebrate with a grand opening party on August 28 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Entertainment from a DJ, games, giveaways and plenty of food and beer will be part of the fun, and tickets are $40 and available at eventbrite.com.

The Voltaggio at Bellagio experience returns to Las Vegas as celebrity chefs Michael and Bryan Voltaggio debut new dishes at another Harvest restaurant takeover August 30 through September 10. The event will feature an a la carte menu of classic Italian American dishes featuring the brothers’ own family recipes with creative twists. Five chefs who all trained under the B&B umbrella of restaurants will participate in a special dinner on August 30 at 6 p.m. at Brezza at Resorts World, dubbed A Taste of Babbo at Brezza. Zach Allen, Nicole Brisson, Arnold Corpuz, Jorge Puebla and Jose Gonzalez are joining forces to create a menu of classic Babbo dishes and personal favorites, including goat cheese truffles, warm lambs tongue, maccheroni alla chitarra, braised beef shank and more. The Mt. Charleston Lodge has added dates to its Pine Dining event series featuring more prominent local chefs popping up on the mountain to cook for guests and present one-of-a-kind outdoor dining experiences. Upcoming events include Pizza Saturday with Chris Decker, Ismaele Romano, Michael Vakneen and Giovanni Mauro on September 3, Gina Marinelli on September 4, and Todd English on September 10-11. Wynn Las Vegas will host the second annual Great End of Summer Barbecue on September 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the resort’s event lawn, featuring Executive Chef of Catering and Special Events Kelly Bianchi’s smoked meats and other dishes. Tickets start at $75 for children and $109 for adults and can be purchased online at wynnlasvegas.com.

Rosa Ristorante on St. Rose Parkway has launched a new weekend brunch available on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Among the dishes available are smoked salmon crostini, truffle scrambled eggs, a chia pudding bowl and more, and then at noon, the menu expands with prosciutto and melon, a classic shrimp cocktail, antipasto salad alla Rosa and more.

Double Helix Wine & Whiskey Lounge has launched a new Sunday brunch available every Sunday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. with a menu of sweet and savory fare from chef Doug Vega including carnitas nachos, chicken and French toast, skirt steak Benedict and more. Bottomless drinks such as mimosas or Bloody Marys are also available.

Chef Matthew Meyer is set to launch a new concept, 138°, opening on September 25 in the space where his former restaurant Served once operated on Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson. The “craft chophouse experience” will include an in-house dry-aging program featuring local Nevada ranch beef as well as carefully sourced pork, duck and fish, all finished on a wood-fired grill. Signature dishes will include shrimp and grits, chilled lobster borscht, seed-crusted lamb loin and the house ground burger with Brie, confit shallots, Parmesan crisp and house A1 sauce.

Chef Antonio Nunez has taken over the Madero Street Tacos space on Carson Avenue Downtown and is set to open the Parlour, a fast-casual drive-thru breakfast concept, this October. The menu will feature elevated dishes such as lavender lattes, salmon Benedict, a vegan breakfast burrito and house-made monkey bread. Follow along at parlourlv.com.

LA waffle and ice cream shop The Dolly Llama is set to expand to Las Vegas this fall with a new location at 4632 S. Maryland Parkway near UNLV. A Las Vegas company has secured local franchise rights and is planning five stores in Southern Nevada.
