Quick Bites: Martin Yan, Peyote, The Stove, Piero’s and more Vegas food news

James Beard Award-winning TV and culinary icon Martin Yan will open his first Las Vegas restaurant, M.Y. Asia, this spring at Bally’s, soon to be rebranded as Horseshoe Las Vegas. Yan has hosted more than 3,000 episodes of cooking shows including Yan Can Cook since 1982 and published more than 30 cookbooks. M.Y. Asia will offer dishes from China, Japan, Vietnam and Thailand, with signatures including Peking duck, hand-pulled noodles, dim sum and fresh live seafood.

Danko Hospitality Group is planning to open Villa Azur, a “dinner party experience ... pairing the upscale European lifestyle with the vibrant Miami touch,” at the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian this summer. The cuisine will be inspired by the south of France and the East Coast, with signature items including truffle burrata, seared octopus and Dover sole meuniére. Late-night entertainment will include DJs, musicians, dancers and more. Danko also operates Mandalina, Karpos, Jatto and The Salty Donut and is based in Miami and Mexico City. There’s a culinary shift happening at Peyote at Fergusons Downtown. Justin Kingsley Hall has stepped away from chef duties for health reasons and the kitchen crew from gourmet Baja-style seafood pop-up the Black Pearl, which has been operating out of Vegas Test Kitchen next door on Fremont Street, is taking over under Corner Bar Management and Peyote partner Jolene Mannina. Expect a menu overhaul soon from Black Pearl chefs Daniel Arias and Isidro Marquez.

Popular Anthem-area spot The Stove LV recently reopened after a major rebranding project under new chef John Baez, formerly of the Landry’s company and El Dorado Cantina. The restaurant is now The Stove NV and will continue to develop a food-centric, party-brunch experience serving the Henderson community. Updates can be found at thestovenv.com.

Piero’s is celebrating the 85th birthday of owner and founder Freddie Glusman with a four-course dinner option highlighting his favorite dishes. Freddie’s Favorite Four will be available February 8-12 for $85 with a portion of proceeds going to benefit the Patrick Kelley Youth Foundation. Among the dishes to choose are spinach and ricotta ravioli, burrata salad, pasta fagioli, chicken parmesan and Glory Bay salmon piccata.

Minus5 Icebar at Mandalay Bay has launched a new, made-from-scratch flavored sorbet collection, available starting on February 11. The bar has also created a tasting game in honor of this weekend’s Super Bowl where guests can purchase a flight of four sorbets and if the flavors are guessed correctly, they will spin a wheel and win a prize.

The Tropicana is kicking off its 2022 Wine & Spirit dinner series on February 17 with a Stag’s Leap wine pairing dinner at Oakville Steakhouse. The event starts at 6 p.m. and tickets are $120 for the four-course dinner with pairings, gifts, drawings and a presentation from the winery. For more information, visit troplv.com.
