THE CONSUMER: Break the Leash

What’s now, what’s LA, at Broken Leash

Jennifer Henry

Let's be honest: LA has all the cool stuff. Sure, we've got shops in Vegas that offer a cross section of La La Land essentials, but to get that Beverly Hills billionaire (or billionairess) brat look, you still have to make a road trip to Robertson. Our retail outlets do carry a serious selection of LA-based designers, such as the once-obscure True Religion, but big stores buy bland before the altar of mass marketing. What's been missing is that of-the-moment mix. Broken Leash, Boca Park's newest boutique, has a bounty of brands from the greater LA area and, more importantly, the notion of what's now.

Already hot in their hometown of Hollywood, Yeron Hamudot and Steve Davis are honing in on the jeans couture-crazed club set here in Vegas. Childhood friends, trendsetting scenesters and fashion aficionados for the last five years, they know what pieces party people are looking for. Amid the bustle of their in-progress build-out, Yeron, in a black Punk Couture hoodie and pristine, sandblasted Seven jeans, is confident that Broken Leash's focus on funky but finished fashions will have Las Vegans covered for an all-nighter out clubbing or the morning-after triple espresso.

Steve, power drill in hand and screen-printed double revolvers blazing on his tee, assures that their shop isn't just another high-end jeans and tees boutique. He and Yeron are Broken Leash's owners, operators and customers. And though their close relationship with the LA clothing community guides them through the trends, for help compiling their women's collection they sweet-talked their favorite It Girls into a "totally yea" or "way nay" afternoon of shopping styles at Cal Mart.

With choice pieces from international labels like Diesel, Don Ed Hardy and Antik Denim, they've got the sought- after staples for a famous fashion foundation and an eclectic catalog of LA local must-haves that are ready for retail recognition. J and Company, Morphine Generation, Rock and Republic and One Life are just some of the brands Broken Leash is bringing to Vegas, including its own line of apparel, the shop's namesake and marketing mantra.

Broken Leash invites Las Vegans with a hunger for couture casual to join them Friday, March 17, for the opening reception and peruse their prized King Baby accessories with publication paparazzi hot on your heels, Hollywood-style.
