Quick Bites: Las Vegas restaurants making news this week

Michael Mina will bring another new culinary concept to Las Vegas with the winter opening of Orla at Mandalay Bay. The restaurant will “blend the flavors of the Mediterranean and Greece with the bold, aromatic spices of the Middle East,” according to an announcement. More details are expected to be announced soon. Mina recently collaborated with Table One Hospitality to launch the Sundry at UnCommons and also operates Bardot Brasserie, International Smoke, Stripsteak and Michael Mina on the Strip.

In related food and drink news, Mina’s wife Diane has launched her Bloody Mary Blues Brunch every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Diane’s Bloody Mary Bar at the Sundry. Guests can order at the hitch trailer or in the food hall through a QR code, there’s live music, and the brunch menu from chef David Varley includes mashed avocado toast, the L.I.E. Long Island egg sandwich, and blue crab cakes with Sungold tomatoes.

Boulder Station is set to open Game On, a new sports bar and grill from the creators of Blondies at the Miracle Mile Shops, later this summer, offering bar top gaming, a full menu with a large variety of draft beer, and plenty of screens for sports viewing.

River Rock Pizza & Pasta has opened at Arizona Charlie’s Decatur, serving Italian favorites, wine, cocktails and more Sunday, Monday and Thursday from 4 until 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. until midnight.

Hussong’s Cantina at the Shoppes at Mandalay Place and at Boca Park has launched Teachers & Tacos, continuing through the month of August. CCSD and charter school teachers with valid school IDs can take advantage of specials including: a free signature beverage with the purchase of an entrée, a free appetizer with the purchase of an entrée, and a free non-alcoholic drink with the purchase of an appetizer.

Marché Bacchus in Desert Shores will host a wine dinner featuring the Oak & Priest Wine Company with appearances by actor Jason Priestley and producer Chad Oakes on August 9 at 6:30 p.m. The paired menu by chef Bradley Ogden will include butter-poached lobster, herb-crusted medallion of beef tenderloin and more. Tickets are $185 per person and reservations can be made by calling 702-804-8008.

Yonutz is all set to open its new Henderson store at 334 West Lake Mead Parkway on August 12 with a grand opening celebration starting at 10 a.m. The first 50 guests will receive four complimentary mini doughnuts, at 2 p.m. the first 50 guests will receive a free big doughnut, and at 7 p.m. the first 50 guests will receive a Yonutz Smashed doughnut of their choice. Gaetano’s in Henderson will continue its wine dinner series on August 25 at 7 p.m. with an event featuring Matthew Semancik from Kobrand Fine Wine & Spirits. The four-course pairing dinner will include Italian antipasto salad, chicken ravioli in mushroom cream sauce and Kurobuta pork chop with Italian chimichurri and summer squash. Tailgate Social Sports Bar & Grill at Palace Station has launched Prime Time Prime Rib Sundays. Available every Sunday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m., the slow-roasted, dry-rubbed prime rib meal is served with rosemary au jus, mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus and is priced at $26.

Lumin Café at Illuminarium Las Vegas at Area15 has launched a new menu from chef Billy Reid as well as the Lucidity Sunday Brunch offering, which takes place the first Sunday of each month. New dishes include chilaquiles, sesame tahini kale salad, fried chicken or cheeseburger sliders, pan-seared salmon, adult shakes and more.

Locale Italian Kitchen in Mountain’s Edge has unveiled a summer prix fixe menu for $60 per person with optional $25 wine pairing. Dish options include oven-baked garlic and mozzarella bread, tomato bruschetta, watermelon panzanella salad, Linguine Alfredo, braised beef short rib, pan-seared salmon and more.

Carversteak at Resorts World and Flanker Kitchen & Sports Bar at Mandalay Bay have launched Locals’ End of Summer prix-fixe menus available to all guests with a local ID. Carversteak’s special menu is $90 and available through August 31; Flanker’s is $55 and available through Labor Day.
