Quick Bites: Las Vegas restaurants making news this week

Ocean Prime has opened at 63, the upscale Las Vegas Strip development at the corner of Harmon Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard. The $20 million restaurant is the 18th Ocean Prime location in the U.S. and will serve as the flagship of the brand from Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, open Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until 10 p.m., Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 11 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Sports Kitchen has launched at Horseshoe Las Vegas, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner featuring sports bar favorites and exclusive menu items like the Crispy Cheese burger, the watermelon mezcal salad and the Quesabirria Mexican Pizza. The 6,540-square-foot space seats 279 and has more than 30 TV screens including a 32-foot video wall. It’s open Sunday through Thursday from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. until midnight.

Award-winning pizzaiolo and founder of Pop Up Pizza Michael Vakneen has opened 00 Pie & Pub, a collaboration with the Lev Group, in Las Vegas’ Chinatown district at 3853 Spring Mountain Road. Serving wood-fired Neapolitan pies, salads, desserts, beer and wine on tap and craft cocktails, 00 Pie & Pub is open Wednesday through Sunday from 5 until 9 p.m.

La Popular CDMX has opened in the former Shark space inside the Palms, the third location of the upscale Mexican restaurant concept from Mexico City’s Grupo Carolo and California-based Eureka Restaurant Group. It’s open Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. until midnight, and Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until midnight.

Taste of Asia has opened at the Suncoast, serving soups, pot stickers and dumplings, wok-fried favorites, noodles, fried rice and more. It’s open Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon until 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from noon until 10 p.m.

Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream has opened its newest location at 7345 Arroyo Crossing Parkway, a 1,500-square-foot shop operating daily from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.

The Punk Rock Museum on Western Avenue has opened the Triple Down Bar, co-managed by Double Down Saloon operator P Moss, serving beer, liquor and a number of punk-inspired cocktails. For more information, visit thepunkrockmuseum.com.

HaSalon, the second Las Vegas restaurant from acclaimed chef Eyal Shani at the Venetian, is scheduled to open on July 15.

The Mirage continues a series of food events this month at different restaurant venues. On July 7 at 4 p.m., Heritage Steak’s Sippin School offers guests craft beer and spirit samples to pair with small bites for $35. On July 13 at 5:30 p.m., Osteria Costa will host a pizza and Italian wine pairing dinner for $55. On July 22 at Stack, a four-course whiskey dinner in partnership with Savage & Cook is available for $155 per person. On July 26 at 6 p.m., Heritage will host the Orin Swift wine pairing dinner for $250 per person. And on July 29 at 4 p.m., Otoro Robata Grill & Sushi will host Sushi School, with executive chef Yoshi Park leading an interactive sushi-making experience for $75 per person. Shogun Ramen is set to open on July 15 in the former space of Monta Chaya at 9500 S. Eastern Avenue. The menu will include a new variety of ramen dishes, including tonkotsu, shoyu, miso and spicy options, according to its Facebook page.

Jaleo at the Cosmopolitan has kicked off its monthlong Summer of Sangria program, featuring an assortment of sangria options available by glass, half pitcher or pitcher, along with three chef-selected tapas. Also, sangria roja or de cava is available by the glass to go.

1923 Prohibition Bar at Mandalay Bay has launched a new cocktail menu. Among the refreshed libations offered: the Derby Manhattan with Woodford Reserve, Carpano Antica vermouth and orange and chocolate bitters; the BCP Milk Punch with Howler Head banana bourbon, Frangelico, cream and vanilla; the Cookie Monster Old Fashioned with Dough Ball whiskey, Frangelico, chocolate bitters and lemon; and the Smoking Jacket with Montelobos Mezcal de Joven, crème de cacao, Orange Curacao and cinnamon-smoked orange wheel.
