Broadacres Marketplace, a 44-acre outdoor swap meet in North Las Vegas, has temporarily closed “out of an abundance of caution and concern for our community.”
In a social media post on Saturday afternoon, management said it didn’t want any of the 15,000 weekly customers, 1,000 vendors or employees to be detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“We are heartbroken to announce this temporary closure, but we cannot in good conscience continue operations while our vendors, customers and community members are under threat,” management wrote.
ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether enforcement has increased in the Valley.
The Nevada Immigrant Coalition has said they have confirmed ICE activity in Southern Nevada and called on state and local leaders to speak out against “economic harm” and take “immediate action” to protect immigrant communities.
“Our communities deserve protection from family separation and guarantee that due process is upheld in every detention and deportation case,” said Rico Ocampo, co-organizing director of Make the Road Nevada.
Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto said in a statement on X that President Trump is “indiscriminately targeting immigrant communities.”
“These are innocent Nevadans working hard to build a better life. This president’s campaign of intimidation is cruel and un-American,” the senator said. –Shannon Miller
