DIGITAL TONY: Teatro Makes Its Mark

Lounge is scene for Billboard party

Antonio Llapur

My birthday craziness wasn't the only high-end event going down last week. In case you didn't notice, the Billboard Music Awards shot through town in a star-studded, lip-synching frenzy.

Most of the excitement centered on the MGM Grand, and the endless celebrity-packed parties. The swankiest happened Tuesday and Wednesday with the official opening of MGM's latest hotspot, the cabaret-flavored Teatro Euro Bar. The usual star suspects were there—Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Robin Leach and Tara Reid—along with Usher, Nick Lachey, the Killers, Maroon 5, Hoobastank, Ron Jeremy, Flava Flav, Aisha Tyler and local boy Vince Neil.

A current trend in the Vegas scene are burlesque joints. Ivan Kane's Forty Deuce at Mandalay Bay and Tangerine at TI have tapped into the retro girlie-show vibe. And Carmen Electra's Pussycat Dolls has found a home at Caesars' upcoming Pure. I assumed Teatro would follow the same mold. What a surprise, then, when I first walked in.

Teatro is no throwback; it's futuristic and slick, and oh so very red. Ferrari red to be exact. All of the leather upholstery, even the hardwood dance floor, come from retired Ferraris. It's intimate, without feeling small, sporting a sci-fi aesthetic. And it's a go-go bar. Plain and simple. House and pop mash-ups dominate the soundtrack, with liquor-bottle video screens surrounding the bar. And guys, wow, you should see the staff. I got a headache from how many times I fell in love.

Here's more excitement for ya: Mike Milner, MGM's executive director of entertainment; DJ Frankie and the whole Studio 54- Tabú-Teatro team have created the ultimate club experience for Tuesdays: 3. One cover charge, three clubs! Start the night at Tabú, rock over to Studio 54's EDEN for some blockbuster clubbing, then swing over Teatro for the sexiest after-hours around. It's your one-stop clubbing destination.

Seven Redux

With the debut of Gino LoPinto and Tony Verdugo's AM After-Hours at Caesars' OPM a couple of weeks away, Verdugo's Alesium After-Hours at Seven has gone the way of the dodo. But, the Seven gang is set to unveil their new after-hours following Club Rubber New Year's Eve bash. Saturday, get a sneak peak of what they've got cooking with Seven's Seven Days Till Christmas holiday party. Local ladies are free, with the revue Men, The Show performing at 10 p.m. and an open vodka bar from 11:30 p.m.-1 a.m. Be sure to catch the grooving sounds from DJs Scooter & LaVelle, Hollywood, David Christian and Miss Joy.

Should be the perfect way to shake them holiday blues.
