Adidas, McCartney offer first true sport line just for women

Anne Kellogg

Adidas has done it again. This time, it's a coup for the ladies as Stella McCartney, the little British designer (and daughter of none other than one very famous musician named Paul), launches a signature line of beautiful workout wear with the sports powerhouse.

Her sporty yet elegant designs are straight out of the dance studio, with wraps, cover-ups, hoodies, shorts, pants and shoes in muted earth tones (always the subtle Brit, that Stella) that you can mix and match beautifully. Anyone familiar with McCartney's award-winning designs (she cut her fashion teeth at Chloe) knows the designer has an eye for the whimsical romantic styles from the 1970s. Her appetite is echoed in "Adidas by Stella McCartney," which she designed for the Performance Division. If you speak Adidas, this means that not only do the clothes look good, they feel good, as well. And as anyone who's ever hit the gym to shed those extra inches knows, half the battle is looking good while you're out there sweating it out amongst a warehouse full perfect strangers.

The line includes products designed for running, swimming and general gym/workout activities. Yoga and Pilates enthusiasts should take special note: This stuff stays on perfectly and doesn't bunch in all the wrong places when your legs are straight up over your head.

The perfect performance of the attire is a result of a lengthy collaboration between McCartney, Adidas' sports design staff and athletes who wear it. The effort, announced last fall, marks the first time an award-winning, high-fashion designer has created functional sportswear for women. Products became available in February.

Sorry boys, this line isn't for you. But Adidas has spoiled all of you over the years with many products for basketball, soccer and now golf.

Adidas also celebrated another coup this spring when it was announced that the company was selected by China as the official outfitter for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. That means every athlete and official will wear Adidas throughout the event.

Lucky Las Vegas. We are one of a few select cities in the United States to have our very own Adidas Performance Center that carries everything Adidas, including McCartney's creations, other sports performance products and the ever-popular Originals. And it's right under our noses on the Strip.
