Indie shops call Summerlin home

Anne Kellogg

While the red-roofed village that is Summerlin doesn't exactly seem like a place that would have some great boutiques, it actually plays home to some of the city's best and brightest independents.

Talulah G, Pink and Envy are Boca Park's women's clothing store standouts and easily make the grade with their strong selections from fun and funky designers. Think of them as places to find anything and everything street chic for various budgets. You'll find jeans from Paper Denim & Cloth, Seven for All Mankind and Citizens of Humanity, T-shirts from Three Dot, C&C California and Michael Stars, and fashions by super-hot designers like Stella McCartney and Chloe.

Girard's, also in Boca Park, is a perfect place to find beautiful handmade what-nots such as jewelry, lovely boxes to put it in, picture frames and other items.

Down the way, at the intersection of Lake Mead and Rampart boulevards, The Pueblo strip center includes not one, but two fun shops: Nu Vision Cyclery and Sport Optics, and Healthy Tails.

Mike Hileman and Danny Kam, the owners of Nu Vision Cyclery and Sport Optics have created a mini-empire for themselves inside one storefront. Both gentlemen are avid bicyclists who parlayed their love of the sport into a great little business.

Kam is the cycle guy. He sells and services the riding equipment end of the business that includes products from Bianchi, Carnac, Santini and Calfee Design. Hileman, a licensed optician, takes care of the active eyewear side of things. His selection is amazing. He is a licensed Oakley prescription dealer, also carries Smith, Adidas, Rudy Project and Dragon Optical, and makes prescription sports glasses that stay put even during extreme sports like skydiving, mountain climbing or biking—not an easy thing to do.

Naturally, the store sponsors a cycling team, too.

Dogs and cats are allowed at Healthy Tails, a pet boutique that says it sells "exceptional products for extraordinary pets." Good thing, too; all of our pets are extraordinary, right? Owners Von and Kerrie Witbeck moved to Las Vegas from the land of Reno to open this terrific store that sells healthy and holistic kibble and treats for dogs and cats, along with entertaining toys and accessories from manufacturers like Lupine and Silver Foot.

The move to open the store was worth the Witbecks' effort. A visit there is worth yours.
