Everybody Loves Lucy

To the Geniuses at Las Vegas Weekly:

For starters, I was really moved by your lovely five-star blurb of Avenue Q [by Contributing Editor Steve Bornfeld, in the September 29 edition]. I'm one of the [Avenue Q] writers. Thank you for the nice article.

Second—I love this week's Lucy cover [by Art Director Benjamen Purvis] more than I can express. I have almost no Avenue Q paraphernalia in my house, but I would proudly display the cover for all to see. I've seen a lot of PR pictures for the show, and Lucy covering her breasts is my hands-down favorite. Is there a way I can buy three copies?

Keep up the good work, and thank you again.

Yours truly,

Jeff Whitty

Dear Editors,

Would love to see the entire photo shoot collection of Lucy The Slut from Avenue Q. Post them on your website or publish them in the next issue.

Thanks,

Mitch Herrington

Editor's Note:
The Weekly will not divulge photos of Lucy in full nudity

We Missed Celine, But It's a Brand New Day

Dear LV Weekly,

Congratulations! You avoided the catch-22 by not reviewing Celine Dion's A New Day in your latest issue. I'm sure the omission was on purpose rather than mere oversight—and I can't blame you. I saw the show in its infancy and again after it had been "tweaked." I walked away both times with the same feeling; it's a great show if you like her but for those who don't dig her (a.k.a. husbands/boyfriends), only the virtual reality of the huge LED screen is cool. Either way, you're damned if you admit you like it and damned if you don't.

But let's give some due credit! She's the first HUGE modern headliner (biggest-selling female artist ever) to have an ongoing show on the Strip. People from all over the world plan their vacation around her show. Critics said she couldn't consistently fill the Colosseum but she has one way or another (psst ... just go into the Bradley Ogden restaurant on slow nights before the show, sit at the bar and wait for the maitre d' to offer you some free, unsold tickets).

Just like Steve Wynn changed the gaming industry, Celine has changed the way the entertainment industry looks at this town ... like it or not.

The LV Weekly could have reviewed the show with some kind of disclaimer perhaps. Awww.. hell, I don't know... you guys were in quite the quandary. Anyway, kudos to your paper for ragging on President Bush but not touching Celine. That takes cojones.

Best,

Fergus G. Kilgore

P.S. You should have seen the look on the maitre d's face when I said "No thanks".

A&E Editor Martin Stein responds:
We had heard a rumor that President Bush was going to be taking over for Celine, and by the time we learned that to be false, we were already going to press. But honestly, our favorite French-Canadian is taking a well-deserved break for much of October, a good chunk of November and almost all of December (Joyeux Noel!), but once she gets back to work, we'll be there.

Everybody Loves Sonja

Dear Editor,

Just out of curiosity, what happened to the Wink! column in the Weekly? Haven't seen Sonja in there for a couple of weeks, new stuff from her has been even longer.

Scott

Editor's Note:
Sonja will return with more Wink! on October 13.

Sal's Football Picks ... Sal's Picks ... Hmmm, Where Were Sal's Picks? Here They Are! Right Under This Double Loop Bowline Knot-Tying Boy Scout Patch

Dear Editor,

Please let Sal DeFilippo know that the readers noticed that he forgot (on purpose) to include his football picks in his column for the September 29-Oct 5 issue.

If Sal is going to expose the celebrities (their picks) for the amusement of the readers, he has to include his football picks also.

The story about the scouts was amusing—sure—but Sal's personal football picks would have provided much more entertainment.

Thank You,

Steve

Editor's Note:
Sal actually did do his picks last week, but we were so engaged in the Scout story that we forgot to run his picks. Here are his picks for that week: Seahawks +2 (lost by 3 in overtime), the Raiders (-3) over the Cowboys (win) and the Cardinals-49ers under 42. (Cards scored too many.)

The Band With the Cool Name Is Cool Enough to Not Care That We Didn't Exactly Rave About Their Music

Dear Editor,

I just wanted to write and express our sincere gratitude for your review of our record in Las Vegas Weekly. We couldn't be more pleased. Thank you so much for listening.
