Bellies and Blossoms is for haute moms

Maternity boutiques aren't normally inspirational. For the most part, browsing through a store full of frumpy, extra-large underwear, nursing bras and non-descript, elastic-waist pants and skirts can be depressing. Bellies and Blossoms in Henderson changes all of that.

As with any great business, it makes shoppers want to wear everything that is sold there, and it's an ideal spot for women who are expecting and for those who just want the vicarious experience.

Owner Lindy Schumacher says she came up with the idea while pregnant with her first child, Samantha. She just couldn't find super-cute maternity clothes here, she says, but she found great stuff all over Southern California.

Now, Vegas moms-to-be can get the same look as their fashion-forward SoCal counterparts without making the journey. And those of us who find ourselves surrounded by pregnant people have a unique spot to shop for them.

Some of the products Schumacher carries even come from the same trendy designers women liked to wear before they were expecting. She sells Earl Jeans and Citizens of Humanity denim pants along with all of those cheeky T-shirts from 2 Chix with imprints such as "Knocked Up," "Tickled Pink" and one with crossed-out images of a cigarette, cocktail and sushi.

Customers also will find a fine selection of dressier blouses, skirts and pants from ChiaraKruza, Japanese Weekend and Maternal America.

Pretty under-things and swimwear are also important parts of a wardrobe, so Bellies and Blossoms stocks bathing suits, panties and camisoles, as well as a broad selection of nursing bras that claim to be as comfortable as they are functional.

As the boutique evolved, Schumacher found a demand for baby bags and accessories. Look for a great selection from Petunia Pickle Bottom, a Vegas mom favorite. She also carries a few of her favorite skin-care products by Tummy Honey for mom.

Happy pregnancies mean happy babies and it all starts with the right clothes.
