Rainbow Seeks Its Roots

Vegas' Rainbow Bar & Grill has gone through more management changes then there are colors in the ... well, you know. The latest is new general manager, Marlo Maglieri, granddaughter of Mario Maglieri, one of the LA-based restaurant's original owners (from whom Jerry and Bob Greenberg bought the licensing rights). Ironically, Marlo moved here 12 years ago to get away from her kin but says she's happy to be in the family business. "We're going to reshift to the rock 'n' roll industry" and away from the club industry, she says, "and cater more to local bands." One such step will be taking part in Sony's Battle of the Bands next month.

Locals have recently been surprised to see bottle service at the bar frequented by the Harley-and-tats set. Marlo says bottles will still be available but not emphasized. Other changes include adding sandwiches, salads and appetizers to the menu. Mark Hornsby, who also manages local band Otherwise, has moved from the Cheyenne Saloon to take over bookings and promotions. Marlo also says a reality show about the Rainbow is in the conceptual stage, and there is also talk of bringing the Whisky a Go Go—the birthplace of LA's rock scene—to Vegas, though she couldn't speculate whether it would be free-standing or in a casino.

He's Obviously Never Been to Body English Sunday

"People aren't necessarily interested in watching a parade of pretty girls. They'd much rather have a $350 bottle of vodka on their table and be sitting around with a bunch of pals from their law firm or fraternity and partying."

—Scott Zeiger, an executive producer of Las Vegas' Phantom of the Opera, in the New York Times.
