Mash-Up

Can You Imagine the Size of the French Fries?

"I'm going to be wrapped in dough by 15 Oompa-Loompas," he says, after which he'll be lowered by helicopter from 10 stories into a giant vat of ketchup. Once inside, he hopes to hold his breath for nine minutes, beating illusionist and stunt-performer David Blaine's record of seven minutes, eight seconds.

If Beacher succeeds, he'll not only best Blaine but also beat the world record of eight minutes, 58 seconds, although Beacher says he's more worried about how hot the ketchup might be when he lands.

The stunt will be taped for an upcoming show on Fox and will be in conjunction with the midnight opening party for the Rockhouse, which took the place of Tequila Joe's in front of the Imperial Palace, and will be followed by a blow-out at Pure, where Paris Hilton—a regular audience member at the Madhouse—will celebrate the release of her debut album, Paris.

Mixing Channels

Ave A/V! True club aficionados will recall Steve Lockwood's brainchild A/V at Ra, the wild night of mixing music and videos by award-winning VJ Roonie G. Well, it's back! On September 4, Jet presents the return of A/V with Roonie G., and Lockwood, now Jet's marketing and promotions manager, couldn't be happier. "We've got a lot of new stuff," teases Lockwood of new double-sided screens that will drop to the floor in the four corners of the club's main room. "I can't wait to unleash it on the locals!" We're ready, Steve! Bring it!

Purely Exclusive

Some may have been surprised to see Sky Nellor's gorgeous face on ads for Erick Morillo's upcoming gig at Tao September 3. Nellor's exclusivity contract with Pure Management Group expired in July with PMG opting not to renew. That leaves an opening in PMG's schedule, and we've learned that LA's DJ Spider has just signed on exclusively with PMG. Sounds to us like DJ AM—who knows Spider from the Winter Music Conference—is gathering the troops for his two upcoming clubs at the Luxor. Catch his debut at Pure on September 29.

Keoki Has Landed

The buzz during Ice's third anniversary August 19 was about the club's future, not past. On August 21, Vegas welcomed its newest local, DJ Keoki, as he officially became a resident of Sin City. Sources say he's bringing along his famous Disco 2000 party and that he's slated to become Ice's newest resident. However, while Ice's lease is good until November 2007, some say that owner Greg Neely has received early buy-out offers that could take effect this spring. Where's Spike TV when you need it?

Rita Out, RokBar In

Sources at MGM-Mirage confirm the rumors we've been hearing about New York-New York's Cabaret Theatre—it will be the new home for Tommy Lee's RokBar with the end of Rita Rudner's long-running show. Crobar had been in negotiations for the space, but financing fell through, giving Rudner a short lease on life. With the RokBar deal inked, Rudner's last night will be August 26.

There's no word on when RokBar will open its doors, but look for the official name to be RokBar Las Vegas. With Dave Navarro and Paul Oakenfold backers for the club's LA outpost, it's reasonable to expect the best of the rock and electronica worlds will be making regular appearances.

A Shout-Outfor Roundabouts

Forget the Spagetti Bowl, Eclectic Breaks has got a traffic problem you've really got to see. The company, which produces equipment for DJs, has a video online to promote one of its latest offerings: the analogue Pro X Fader. From a bird's-eye view of an intersection with two roundabouts (or traffic circles for the less British-inclined of you out there), two giant hands come down and start scratching and fading using pedestrians and moving vehicles. Check it out at www.boreme.com/boreme/funny-2006/dj-roundabout-p1.php.

What Happens Here, Pays Here

"Whatever the opportunities are, that is where you are going to find me."

COCKTAIL o' the Week

Mango Mojito

Hootie & The Blowfish's Shady Grove Lounge, $6

Ingredients

2 lime wedges

2 ounces Malibu Mango Rum Liqueur

0.75 ounces simple syrup

6 ounces soda water

Splash of Sierra Mist soda

Muddle lime and mint and fill glass with ice. Add other ingredients and shake. Garnish with mango spears and fresh mint. Yep, it's still summer so there's still time to enjoy mojitos—especially those with a taste of the tropics, like mango. Just be thankful the drink's name is shorter than the bar's.
