DREAM ZONE

What secrets do your dreams hold?

Lauri Quinn Loewenberg

I'm dead, my body on a table, all my insides removed, head, legs and arms severed, only the trunk of my body left. I watch as this happens, telling myself to be calm, I'll be all right. Soon my body is empty. Waking, I feel extreme loneliness.

Debbie, 52

Lauri: This dream comments on a figurative "death" in your life. What's ended recently—a relationship, a project, a goal? More important is the autopsy, indicating you've been self-exploring. Have you been "dissecting" a situation in your life or "digging" deep into yourself to find an answer? Your severed head and limbs mean there's been a recent separation in your life. The loneliness you awoke to is important. Have you endured a recent breakup? Whatever's causing you to feel lonely or "empty," you must heed this dream's advice: You're going to be all right.

Debbie replies: In 2004, I ended a relationship, which I'm back in but thinking about ending again. I thought things would change but they got worse; communication and intimacy are faint memories. I dissect this every day. I know it's time to go—it'll be fine.
