Mash-Up

Hurray for Hollywood

In a surprise move unforeseen by everyone except for our very own Xania Woodman (you do read the Circuit religiously, don't you?), DJ Hollywood is the new program director for Pure Management Group, leaving N9NE Group after an eight-and-a-half-year tenure. The position puts Hollywood, a long-standing locals favorite, in charge of the entertainment—musical and otherwise—for Pure, Tangerine, Coyote Ugly, and of course, any future projects the nightclub behemoth has planned. And not wanting to waste Hollywood's turntable talents, he'll be spinning Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at Pure beginning this week. Adam Goldstein's fans can rest easy; there are no plans to move DJ AM from his Friday slot, which means you can now hear two of the city's top jocks for the price of one.

Red Rock Rocks

The dance club at the new Red Rock Casino, opening April 18, will be called Cherry. Its 8,500 square-foot oval area with a mirrored entrance will put it in league with Light, as will its design, being handled by the Rockwell Group, the same firm responsible for the Spa and Whiskey Sky and Beach at Green Valley. (No surprise there, as Rande Gerber is also behind the venture.) Look for a private pool deck, red leather walls and crimson glass doors, VIP areas overlooking the dance floor, and by the pool, rotating sun and day beds. The pool cabanas also will feature plasma TVs, stereos, refrigerators and private bars. With all of that, who'd ever want to go home again?

No More Detour From the Straight and Narrow

Curve, the swank, multiroom club at the Aladdin, has shut its doors. While there are rumors the Planet Hollywood people are going to install three new nightspots on property, plans for Curve's old space haven't been finalized, according to Sara Gorgon, the casino's publicist. In the meantime, Curve's comfy couches have been moved into the old Living Room, now being retasked as a sports bar. It also means the little-publicized two-for-one martini happy hour is gone. A moment of silence, please, while we collect our thoughts.

It's Never Too Early to Start Planning

The Hard Rock's Rehab, the hottest pool party in Vegas, is coming up fast, opening its 2006 season on April 30. We have rumors about the opening-day act, but confirmed for May 28 is one of the world's top DJs, Tiesto. You'd better crack down on those crunches and thong-shopping.

Find Vegas Wherever You Are

If you're in the Austin area for South by Southwest and miss home, swing by the new Beauty Bar at 617 E. Seventh St., an area similar in some ways to our own Fremont. This marks the sixth of Paul Devitt's enterprises nationwide, including one in San Diego. Vegas' outpost continues to draw in the hipster crowd with great bands, top DJs (including Graham Funk), First Friday's Get Back after-party, and now poetry nights the second Saturday of each month.

And if life finds you in Manhattan, you can drop into the Double Down Saloon at 14 Ave. A at Houston. A Weekly Readers' Choice winner two years running, the punked-out bar famous for its ass juice and bacon martinis is open every day from noon until 4 a.m. The Double Down closed?! Okay, maybe it's not really like the original.

Beer, Bull Rides and Blue Jeans

Ever get tired of dressing up, waiting in line and paying $10-plus for a drink when all you want to do is go out and tear it up? A new outfit in town, Vegas Pubcrawlers, might just be your ticket. Michael Klein and Adam Hersh, UNLV hotel management students, will start you off at New York-New York's Big Apple Bar and then via chartered bus take you to "four of the hottest bars in Vegas for drinks, dancing, food and live entertainment," according to their press release. Those bars include: the Ice House, Roadrunner, Gilley's, Blondies, the Hofbrauhaus, Rainbow Bar & Grill, House of Blues and many more. Cost is $75, which also gets you an official Vegas Pubcrawlers T-shirt, a framed group photo, food and drink discounts and—best of all—alternative transportation arrangements at the end of the bacchanalia.
