Hot, Hot Heat: Songs About Stealing Songs

Spencer Patterson

The Smiths: "Shoplifters of the World Unite." Something tells us Morrissey wouldn't fare well behind bars.

Bruce Springsteen: "Stolen Car." "I'm driving a stolen car/On a pitch black night/I wanna get caught but I never do" Who can't relate? The Tracks box set version is more heist-worthy, by the way.

The Pop Group: "Rob a Bank." These leftist extremists sound like they really mean it.

Junior Murvin: "Police and Thieves." If you can't track it down, try the Clash's cover. Leave the Culture Club rendition behind, though. It's frustratingly angst-free.

Organized Konfusion: "Who Stole My Last Piece of Chicken." You gonna pilfer Pharoahe's entree? Didn't think so.

Jane's Addiction: "Been Caught Stealing." The quintessential kleptomaniac anthem. While you're at it, swipe the video too.
