Triq’s for Club Kids

Magician Steve Wyrick is reappearing on the Strip and he's got a new trick up his sleeve. Rather, make that Triq.

When his new $34 million theater complex opens in the Miracle Mile (formerly the Desert Passage) in early November, it will include a sprawling nightclub and lounge, both called Triq. Covering 33,000 square feet, it will be between Club Rio and Tao in size—a "mega-club" in Wyrick's words.

It's a far cry from the museum Wyrick had envisioned three years ago, but it's something the illusionist was clearly excited over when talking about the venture at the second annual Las Vegas Prom.

"I want to create something never done before," he said, explaining that the underlying concept will allow people to go see his show, retire to the lounge for a cocktail and then head upstairs to dance the night away. People also will be able to go straight into the club.

Wyrick's partner in enthusiasm is the club's director, Tony Verdugo, a veteran of the Vegas late-nightlife scene, having been with Drai's, Seven and Empire Ballroom.

"Years back, I loved Drai's," said Wyrick. "I wanted one person and one person only [to help run the club], and I got him."

Triq will cover four floors and, according to Wyrick, he has hand-picked all of the design elements, with furniture imported from Italy. Like any good performer, Wyrick didn't want to give too much away but did say to be on the lookout for onyx and mother of pearl. All of the tables, and especially those in VIP, will be huge, he said, with some able to comfortably seat 10 to 15. And because man cannot buy wine but only rent it, those indulging in VIP bottle service also will have access to exclusive restrooms.

The lounge will be open seven days a week, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., and the club will be open Fridays and Saturdays, 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. or later, depending on the crowd. "It will be flat-out the coolest after-hours club in Las Vegas," Wyrick said, with Verdugo adding, "It will be local love from Day 1 to forever."

That love will translate as no cover for locals—men and women—and a low $20 cover for out-of-towners. But there will be local lust, too. Triq will offer a "Too Hot to Pay" card to select women chosen by Wyrick. As the name implies, those lucky few will be able to party at Triq without ever signing a bill, getting unlimited entry, drinks and even bottles. "If they want 10 bottles, they'll get 10 bottles," said Wyrick.

"There will only be one place to end the night," said Wyrick, "and that will be Triq."

Get Your Rum On

Rumjungle is introducing two new nights this month: Xotic Mondays and Rumba Wednesdays, on September 18 and 30, respectively (we'll let you figure out what days of the week they fall on). Xotic will offer buy-one-get-one bottle specials, hourly bottle and table giveaways and free admission for locals. Even better for the fairer sex, groups of 10 or more women will get a free bottle.

Rumba will feature Corona and Sky drink specials, with DJ Urbin and guest Miami turntablists spinning salsa, merengue, cumbia, bachata and reggaeton.

Rouge Is Applied

We got so caught up with our annual nightlife issue and the insanity that's Labor Day, we forgot to give a nod to the opening of Rouge, occupying Teatro's old footprint. We broke the news about the name and furnishings back in July and were happy to see the Ferrari leather seats full of happy patrons enjoying the Adam Tihany-designed bottle wall when we swung by last month. Maybe now the MGM Grand will bring back those cocktail carts.

Take That, California

A showgirl headdress nod to New York which, in a recent Forbes online poll, tied with us for American cities with the best nightlife, each getting 18 percent of the vote. We all know which of the two is the true 24-hour town, of course. San Francisco and LA barely registered, each getting three percent.

The Ferry Man

Ferry Corsten will be making his last Vegas appearance for 2006, headlining Life By Night, an event at Club Rio September 18 presented in conjunction with Billboard's 13th annual Dance Music Summit. Spinning the same night will be Italy's Spankox, Scotty Boy and Robert Oleysyck, with England's The Loose Cannons providing the funk.
