VIP SUNdays shine

Bran Kip’s monthly ShowCase party has been living up to its name, attracting more attention with each tasteful entertainment-industry event it hosts: gorgeous models, top-name photographers, tantalizing house music and more. Held at hot spots such as Tabu, Tao, VooDoo and now Asia, these events allow business and pleasure to be captured in one place at one time. ShowCase is now expanding above and beyond the party scene, as a full-fledged entertainment company producing weekly events.

Continuing through the end of the pool-party season, VIP SUNdays go off on the VIP Deck at the Palms Pool & Bungalows, noon to 6 p.m., hosted by Brian Kip and Digital Music.

“It will be the hottest pool party in Las Vegas!” Kip raves. To get on the guest list, call 273-8414 or visit www.showcasenightlife.com/palms.

ShowCase Events and Digital Music also hosts Tuesdays at Moon. DJ Digital Boy does his thing every Tuesday night. For this guest list call 942-6832 or go to www.showcasenightlife.com/moon.

The true bump and grind

As the dangerous and sexy gals of RollerCon 2007 invade Las Vegas for their annual four-wheeled derby of chaos, the party they bring with them is almost just as crazy as what goes on inside the rink. While the gals will be causing mischief from Fremont to Imperial Palace through August 12, the carousing hub will be at the Double Down Saloon. The whole week promises bands, burlesque and more—but, really, what more do you need? Thursday at 10 p.m., see the first of many burlesque shows, followed by The Peccadilloes, Josef Grool and Secret Crush Society. If you can handle another Bacon Martini (a house specialty), Friday lights up with The Withdrawls, Three Chord Wonders, Johnny Cheapo, Give ’Em Hell, Longway and Helltown Harlots. Saturday, when the bruises and scrapes of the skating skirmishes become fashion accessories, Double Down showcases The Pin Ups, Pat Todd & The Rank Outsiders, Pretty In Stereo, Babies With Rabies and In Liars We Trust. Finally on Sunday, Pam T. Hamster presents her Panty Hamster Snatchfest, coined “Shave it & I’ll take a bite.” We have no idea what that means, but it sounds like one helluva good time. The evening’s sounds will be provided by the Bargain DJ Collective, with spinning girl groups. Also keep an eye out for the limited-edition, screen-printed RollerCon ’07 poster available only at Double Down. Find out more about the all-girl roller skating bonanza at rollercon.net.

Sushi and a sashay

A meal can make or break a big night of imbibing. Eat too little and you’re getting the fireman’s carry out the door after that fourth shot. Eat too much and you’re waddling around the dance floor like the Stay Puft marshmallow man.

You need the perfect base to start the perfect night of partying, and the MGM Grand is taking a stab at providing a one-stop shop for both meal and mayhem. The Ultimate $54 Dine-and-Dance Package combines the obvious numerical tie-in of Studio 54 and the top shelf teppanyaki-style sushi house Shibuya. For just over half a C-note you get a full dinner and front-of-the-line admission to the club. Since an average dinner at Shibuya goes for about $75 per head, it’s a deal right there, but add admission to the iconic drink emporium and it’s a steal.

The dinner includes a set menu of signature sushi rolls, tempura and other Japanese delights, and ends with a shot of sake. The party starts late, and so does the seating, only available between 9 and 10 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. To make reservations, call 891-3001.

From roots to rumba

“Liquor before beer, never fear” is the saying, right? Okay, then we’re safe. Friday Night Live at the Hard Rock pool is plenty raucous as it is: Roots reggae phenoms Steel Pulse perform by the water this Friday, with complimentary drinks by Ketel One Vodka to start the night. Next, the vodka-sweating crew moves over to the Pink Taco, where $2 Dos Equis foam all night, DJ 88 spins, and we anticipate all to be screaming like Mexican pro wrestlers.

Tiki touchdown

Football is back, and not only does that mean more Monday morning hangovers from Sunday games, it also means more Monday night fun. While we can expect the gentlemen’s clubs to roll out the usual fanfare for the pigskin parties, there is a new kid on the block that doesn’t require lying to the lady about where you are watching the game. Tahiti Joe’s is up and running at the Tahiti Village Resort and is already pumping up for preseason. Every Monday night the lounge will serve up drink and food specials to complement the game, with several giveaways and live entertainment also in tow.
