ALL ENCOMPASSINGLY: VEGAS COMEDY

Q&A: Carrot Top, Roaster with the Moster

Q&A: Carrot Top, Roaster with the Moster

You taped The Comedy Central Roast of Flava Flav July 22 in Los

Angeles; how did the experience treat you? Any surprises?

I felt like I was being roasted the way everyone was coming at me. Roasts are like Christmas for comics. We are all friends and it’s done in good spirit, but we can all be pretty harsh on each other.

Can you preview a line or two you use on Flav or your fellow Roasters?

Apparently you haven’t seen a roast, because there wasn’t one thing said that night that you could reprint.

Past Roasts have included Bea Arthur and Betty White on the dais. Did Rue McClanahan or Estelle Getty happen to make a surprise appearance?

They actually didn’t. We started taping in the early evening; they were already in bed by then.

Who would be on your Dream Dais should Comedy Central ever approach about roasting you?

Only people that will be nice and kind. Nobody I owed money to.

What can you tell me about the upcoming Larry the Cable Guy

Christmas Spectacular special (taped August 8 at the Pearl)? In hindsight, should you have pushed harder to do something with your “Trailer Trash” script, a series that would have seemed destined to catch the Blue-Collar wave?

We’ve tried doing it. And we’re still trying. That project is still not dead. If anything, Larry and his guys have opened the door for more of that kind of stuff. I go way back with Larry the Cable Guy. He and I were playing in the same clubs 20 years ago and he’s a good friend. It’s really nice to go back and think about that.

The Comedy Central Roast of Flava Flav airs  Sunday, August  12 at 10 p.m.
