Our picks of the week

1

Get crazy. Last year, he downed 13 shots (and one beer), lay on the ground, showed his ass and convinced a male audience member to lick a dildo. What manner of mayhem will stand-up Joe Rogan unleash during this weekend’s pre-New Year’s show? Chances are it will involve pot, aliens, Fear Factor, sex, the Middle East and, yeah, alcohol ... With Ari Shaffir and Joey Diaz. December 28, 11:45 p.m., $25-$35. House of Blues, 632-7600.

2

Relive the night. The party favors and balloons, the champagne toast and the sparklers, the fabled midnight kiss ... Why wait a whole year to do it again? Blush boutique nightclub at Wynn will replicate the festivities of New Year’s Eve on Tuesday, January 1 from the noisemakers to the bubbly for all those industry members who worked so hard to help everybody else ring in the new year the night before. Rapper Lil Jon will lift up his krunk juice and do the honors of counting down (again) for the midnight toast. Yeah-yah! Or, get a jump on the celebration andat Poetry nightclub’s Industry New Year’s Eve party before the big night, on Thursday December 27 with free admission and champagne for all industry members.

3

Pop! Nothing says Happy New Year like futurepop. Jade Puget and Davey Havok of Blaqk Audio—the dark, electronic side of band AFI—will perform live at Body English on Saturday, December 29. Their debut album CexCells, which came out this past August, imbues cold electronica with raw emotion. How better to kick off your New Year’s Eve weekend? Blaqk Audio will play a few songs off their debut album, though an insider adds that they might dip into their AFI material as well.

Revisit CineVegas’ past. Most of the movies that show up at the annual CineVegas film festival don’t end up getting big theatrical releases, so if you don’t catch them at the fest, you may not ever see them. The CineVegas folks are working to correct that now with a new screening series featuring favorites from festivals past. The From the Vault series, which will run the first Thursday of each month, starts with Happy Here and Now, an indie sci-fi feature that premiered at CineVegas in 2002. January 3, 7 p.m., free. Clark County Library, 507-3400.

Get in on the brawl. There’s no night like fight night, and on Saturday, December 29 at 8 p.m. at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, there will be a monumental one when Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell faces off against “The Axe Murderer” from Brazil, Wanderlei Silva, in the Octagon cage. And the best part is, it’s not even the main event. That will be Matt Hughes vs. Georges St-Pierre, a rubber match between two of mixed martial arts’ best and most exciting fighters. Tickets $100-$1,000; 632-7580. UFC 79 will also be broadcast live by pay-per-view, and at various PT’s and Sierra Gold taverns throughout the Valley. Call 870-0087 for more information.
