Notes on our new life

Scott Dickensheets

This fab new look results from months of tireless, painstaking redesigning, re-redesigning, and re-re-redesigning by Art Director Benjamen Purvis. If you see him on the street—he'll be the one admiring typefaces on the signage—say many kind things to him.

Something else was redesigned, too: the way we arrange content here in what we now call The Intersection (née As We See It). You'll note that the pages are now themed (this spread is called "New Life"). These upfront pages will be themed differently each week, and under each theme we will group whatever content makes sense there, mixing news, A&E and weird marginalia in a shameless free-for-all of cross-pollination. Because it occurred to us that that's how life comes at you—a vast, undifferentiated flow of everything. What's fun is drawing interesting connections between all of it. That's what we plan to do here.

Lastly, we owe a huge, bottomless thank-you to designer Wes Gatbonton, who kept this thing together for those months that Ben was toiling in designland. Hope you like the results.
