Mash-Up

Hail to the Queen!

First, she has agreed to co-host the long-awaited return of Beacher's Madhouse at the Hard Rock Hotel on March 31. The infamous local comic has announced he has reached an agreement with the hotel, which will exhibit madcap freak hilarity the last Saturday of every month, with Rees kicking off the new season. With Beacher's shows known for the exactly the kind of behavior Miss Rees has garnered a hefty portion of Internet traffic for, we doubt her tongue exploits were an isolated incident.

Also, over at Jet nightclub, Rees will continue to prove her virtue, as she will host "Hail to the Queen," her own coronation to be crowned the Queen of Jet on Monday, January 29. Well done, Katie—you will always be Miss Nevada for us.

All-Stars on Ice

As the event list for the monumental basketball week continues to grow, promotions company All Star Weekend 2007 LLC has announced it will host an NBA All-Star party February 15-18 in the space that formerly held Ice Las Vegas. Promising a star-studded line-up, hosts LeBron James and Allen Iverson, and a clientele list ranging from Jay-Z to Diddy, it should be one of the more shiny venues of talent. DJ Kid Capri is scheduled to kick things off that Thursday.

Midnight Snack

V-Bar isn't counting carbs, and it doesn't care how late you eat. Formerly a favorite event at Firefly Restaurant, Midnight Snack brings together DJs, artists, fashion designers and friends sharing "music, art, fashion, food," as well as culture and creativity in a scene rarely seen. On Wednesday, January 24, the Snack brings you sounds by guest DJ Brian Minogue with an opening set by Joey Da Juice, percussion by Cayce, art by Joseph Watson—all art will be displayed for two weeks—and fashions by Patricia Samaniego. Local DJs Douglas Gibbs and Jason Lema host the nocturnal feast for eyes, ears and palate. The tapas-style appetizers and chocolate truffle cake start floating around every Wednesday at 10 p.m. Call 414-3200 for reservations and additional information.

Excalibur Running Hot

Making an effort to get in on the game, Excalibur is finally pulling the nightlife sword out of the stone with the opening of its new lounge, Octane. In keeping with its name, the "chic" biker-style bar touts a high-energy atmosphere and is located right outside the Louie Anderson Theater, attracting the pre-/post-theater crowds. Classic rock music aides the bevertainers, which no bar seems to be without these days.

Cocktail O' the Week

The Artisan Chocolate Martini

The Artisan Hotel, $14

Ingredients

2 12 oz. Van Gogh dark

chocolate truffle vodka

2 12 oz. white crème de cocoa

14 oz. Frangelico

A tipple work of art amidst the gallery of the dark boutique hotel, it has a kick any martini snob will like, but a strong chocolate taste that will appeal to any cacao lover. Valerie Rodgers decorated this beauty for us, and says that each bartender has their own twist on it, as every artist should.
