Ingredients

7 vanilla sugar crystals

1 oz. Glorious Chrysanthemum tea

1/3 oz. sweet Mochi rice powder

1.5 oz. Grey Goose vodka

I know I always feel lucky after a couple of cocktails (one of the reasons my fiancée forbids me to gamble when I go out), but this July 7 it might actually work out. For what is hyped as the most serendipitous calendar day for the next hundred years—7/7/07—Social House has created a drink to woo the lady of luck. After muddling the mochi rice powder (a symbol of good fortune in Japanese culture) and sugar crystals (representing the Seven Virtues) three times to represent the three wishes of good fortune, the Glorious Chrysanthemum (representative of the royal palace of Japan) and the Goose Vodka (the equivalent of a rabbit’s foot in France) are put in a tin to be shaken up seven times and down eight times, representing ups and downs of life. I usually don’t get this deep until after I have drunk the cocktail. Garnish with a red rose petal and then go push your luck.
