Stop teasing us

Bad band breakups suck, but groups who linger in indefinite limbo, serving up perpetual, unrequited hope, might actually be worse:

Spencer Patterson

1. Fugazi, "Cashout" (The Argument, 2001) The Evens are okay, but Ian MacKaye was born to go electric and tear up his throat while singing.

2. My Bloody Valentine, "When You Sleep" (Loveless, 1991) If Kevin Shields ever follows up Loveless, the Earth will surely spin off its axis.

3. Godspeed You! Black Emperor, "09-15-00" (Yanqui U.X.O., 2002) Their dreamy post-rock compositions are lengthy, but not enough so to tide us over any longer.

4. The Fugees, "Ready or Not" (The Score, 1996) Quit the start-and-stop reunion tour routine already and book some studio time.

5. Neutral Milk Hotel, "Oh Comely" (In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, 1998) Drop the decade's best album on us and disappear forever? Oh no you don't, Jeff Mangum!
