[Comedy] The funniness of fall

Julie Seabaugh

There’s no short supply of stand-ups coming to keep Rita Rudner, Louie Anderson, Carrot Top and George Wallace—who performs alongside Jerry Seinfeld at the Andre Agassi Foundation’s Grand Slam for Children benefit October 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena—company this autumn. In addition to the likes of Seinfeld, Chris Rock and Ellen DeGeneres at the third annual Comedy Festival (Caesars Palace, November 14-17), highlights include:

Hot and fluffy Gabriel Iglesias plays Monte Carlo’s Lance Burton Theatre September 14 and 15. Harrah’s Improv has scored Adam Ferarra September 18-23, and the Tropicana’s Comedy Stop boasts a killer lineup of Jim David, Matt Kirschen and Jimmie “J.J.” Walker September 17-23, while Mo’Nique headlines the Mandalay Bay Theatre September 28 and the Smothers Brothers kick it old-school October 18-21 at the Orleans. And though no one’s watched the show for at least two seasons, NBC’s Last Comic Standing Tour takes over the Orleans October 13.

Prefer your comedy political or pissed off? George Carlin returns to the Orleans September 20-23 and November 22-25, while Dennis Miller stomps the same ground October 5-7. Lewis Black elevates his blood pressure September 27-October 3 at MGM Grand’s Hollywood Theatre; Louis CK puts the decline of his self-worth on full display October 13 at the House of Blues. The HOB has also scored the comedic coup (no, seriously) of Pauly Shore with special guest/sperm donor Sammy Shore on September 29.

Not only is the Pearl quickly establishing itself as a peerless music venue, it’s also a formidable comedy contender, hosting Carlos Mencia’s “The Punisher” Tour October 20 (featuring Vegas native Jo Koy) and Jim Gaffigan November 25. Over in the Palms Lounge, meanwhile, Cort McCown and Paul Hughes’ Playboy Comedy Show celebrates its second anniversary under the Bunny with guests Dov Davidoff and Ian Edwards on September 22, Joe “Don’t Call Me Fear Factor” Rogan on October 6 and Rich Vos on November 10.

Blue Collar enthusiasts have reason to yee-haw: Green Valley Ranch’s Grand Events Center has lassoed Bill Engvall for October 20; Ron White shows up November 3 at Mandalay Bay Theatre; Bob & Tom crooner Rodney Carrington doubles down at the MGM Grand’s Hollywood Theatre November 1-7 and November 29-December 5; and Larry the Cable Guy gits the Orleans done December 15.

And seems there is a comedy god answering prayers in Vegasville; Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn and Maria Bamford recently announced an October 11 Comedians of Comedy date at the House of Blues.
