[Decisions] Do I want that back?

What happens when Jim Rogers gives money to Larry Craig

Damon Hodge, Scott Dickensheets

Last week, when it surfaced that sex-scandaled Sen. Larry Craig might not resign after all, we wondered if someone else was doing a little Craig-related rethinking. That is, would Jim Rogers ask the toe-tapping senator to return the campaign donation?

“Absolutely not,” said the notoriously temperamental owner of Sunbelt Broadcasting, who gave Craig—who’s not a friend, he said, just one of many politicians Rogers has thrown money at—$1,000 in June. “Frankly, I’ve never asked for a campaign contribution back from anybody. I figure that it’s money spent.” (He will reconsider donations to the schools he oversees as chancellor of the state’s higher-ed system—last month he rescinded a $3 million gift he’d made to UNR.)

Earlier this week, Craig filed a motion to undo his guilty plea, saying he felt pressured to admit guilt thanks to a climate of fear created by his hometown paper. Perhaps he should have asked the unflappable Rogers for a few tips in that  department; sounds like it would’ve been worth more than a thousand bucks.
