Xania gets some love!

Hey Xania! I’m a huge fan of your “Xania’s Hot Spots”. I read it every week to find out where the best places are to go every weekend, and I’ve never been let down. I saw you on Bobby Flay’s Throwdown the other day on the Food Network and I got so excited! I was watching it with my friends and started telling them all about you lol. Anyways, just wanted to say that it was really cool to see you on the Food Network and I love your column. Keep up the good work!!

Should reporters pay for interviews?

Was just thinking about this issue [as mentioned in Richard Abowitz’ lasvegasweekly.com blog on August 20 about Jerry Lewis] reading Joshua Longobardy’s interview with the “invincible” homeless man [August 9, “Eliot Pierce Won’t Die.”] Joshua was buying the man, an alcoholic, alcohol in order to get the interview. I wonder how much of a difference between that, and say, simply paying a subject for a story there truly is.

—MARTIN STEIN

Joshua Longobardy responds:  The line in the letter which reads “Joshua was buying the man ... alcohol in order to get the interview” is unfounded.

A way to remember Julie

I was saddened to read in Las Vegas Weekly  [August 30] of the passing of a  long time friend of mine, Julie Brewer. I feel a fitting tribute to this remarkable lady would be to rename the arts district in her honor. Without the spark that she ignighted with her coffee shop Enigma the entire beast known as “the arts district”  (totally banal) might not exist. Something simple like “Brewer” or “The Brewer District” might work. I will miss Julie she was a great lady.

Yours truly,
