Beyond the rope: Chris Clouse

Chris Clouse, soulful rocker

Hometown: San Francisco, California

Age: 29

Profession: Musician, singer/songwriter

Profile: Having matured young—he wrote his first song at 12 and opened for Johnny Cash at 15!—Clouse toured the Northwest throughout high school, first on the fiddle and later on the guitar. It was when he moved to San Francisco that Clouse started laying high-energy electronic beats over his original music with partner DJ Solomon. He and his manager have coined the term “rocktronica” for Clouse’s sound and even wrote the Wikipedia entry for the term. In Vegas, Clouse has performed at Tao Beach, Simon, Revolution and Ghostbar, as well as at many Rock n’ Roll Wine events.

Why I Do What I Do: “I feel like music is part of everybody’s life; it adds to our culture and our peace of mind. I started young, and I almost feel it’s my responsibility to finish what I started.”

Personal Tidbit: Clouse finds inspiration in surfing, motorcycle-riding and anything that allows him quiet solo time.

Movie most recently downloaded: Renaissance Latest Accomplishment: Recently completed nine songs for his next album, due out in January 2008. The untitled album is more beat-driven and will be released under Clouse’s record label, Bellstar, with help from Hewlett-Packard, which will make Clouse the first up-and-coming artist it promotes for his use of innovative technology to make music.

Quote: “I want to laugh, I want to cry/I want to live until I die.” Chris Clouse, “Sweet and Sour”
